Google announced during this year's I/O conference in San Francisco that the turn-by-turn directions of Google Maps will be made available even without data connection.

Users only have to save the route while connected online, and the directions will be made available even when offline.

The GPS feature does not need LTE coverage, making it possible to track routes and estimate your travel time, according to Fortune.

These two features will become available for saved maps from late 2015, Jen Fitzpatrick, Google's vice president in charge of engineering and product management, told Car Advice.

There is no announcement if the offline search and navigation features will be available in all markets and platforms. There have been instances wherein applications are not simultaneously released in all countries.

The new Google Map offline functionality will be released alongside the YouTube Offline option, available in India, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam, that allows you to download and keep YouTube videos on your device for up to 48 hours, The Verge reports.

Google also has plans to optimize data usage in Chrome, saying that it can reduce data consumption for as much as 80 percent.

This feature will really make an impression, especially in places where mobile internet connections are spotty.
