Ever the doting husband and father to Prince George, Prince William is working on creating special and traditional gift just for the Duchess of Cambridge, Hollywood Life reports, something that his father Prince Charles did for Princess Diana back in the day!

As a commemorative post-birth present, Prince William is designing a customized brooch for Kate Middleton, and not just any brooch, of course.

"William has been giving this a lot of thought for a long time," a source revealed to the Daily Express. "He's got lots of ideas from studying history of art at university and decided on a pink diamond as a centerpiece because it is pretty and feminine. It will be a thank you present to Kate."

With the help of the Queen's jewlers, Prince William will take a hands-on approach to the brooch's design, and we can't wait to see what it will turn out looking like. Prince Charles did the same thing for Princess Diana after Prince William's birth, presenting his wife with a gold medallion and gold "W" charm.

Originally, Prince William thought of giving his wife something from his late mother's jewelry collection, but since the Duchess already wears Princess Diana's engagement ring, he opted for a brand new piece that would be appropriately personalized for her. The pink diamond he has decided on will still follow royal tradition, however, as the Queen wears one of the finest uncut pink diamonds in the world, often on a brooch.

The Duchess and new heir to the throne have already been showered with a plethora of gifts, from a $15,000 charm bracelet with a diaper cream container to an extravagant Finnish "baby box" that contains toys, clothes, baby items and even condoms for the new parents, a means of encouraging them to wait a bit before trying for baby No. 2.

We don't think that will happen anytime soon, however, as the new parents are plenty busy with royal duties while caring for Prince George. The Duchess has gotten the hang of breastfeeding her son, and Prince William's two-week paternity leave is up, so he will be away for the time working while Middleton stays at her parent's home in Bucklebury, Berkshire until the royal couple's Kensington Palace residence, Apartment 1A, has completed renovations.
