Sako the King Shepherd was inducted into the Purina 2015 Animal Hall of Fame for his protective instinct over his human, Joseph.

It has always been in Sako's, 4, nature to help those in need but he was especially noticed for his recent heroism in June 2014 when he stayed at his teenaged human's side for more than 40 hours after a deadly crash.

Sako and Joseph, were ejected from a car during a crash on a family road trip. They were the only two survivors.

It took more than 40 hours for searchers to find Sako and Joseph. During this time Joseph was dozing in and out of consciousness, but Sako diligently stayed by his side, cuddled with him for warmth and even dragged him to a nearby river for water.
