Last year, a short demo titled "P.T." arrived on the PlayStation Store and left an impact on the horror game community. The demo, which featured an unnamed protagonist walking through a neverending hallway and seeking out clues about the spirit that inhabits it, led many to speculate about the game's origins.

After players figured out how to get to the hidden ending, they discovered that "P.T." was a teaser for "Silent Hills," the next entry in the "Silent Hill" horror game series. The game was going to be made by Japanese developer Kojima Productions and film director Guillermo Del Toro, along with "The Walking Dead" star Norman Reedus.

However, recent reports revealed that "Silent Hills" distributor Konami and Kojima Productions may be pulling the product sooner than expected. Konami published an update on the "Silent Hills" website saying that "The distribution period of P.T. (Playable Teaser) on PlayStation Store will expire on Wednesday, April 29, 2015."

The notice led many fans to quickly download the popular demo to their own devices so that they'll have access to it.

This, along with ongoing rumors about Konami splitting with Kojima Productions, led many fans to wonder if Kojima was cancelling the project. The rumors were confirmed when both Del Toro and Reedus told the internet that the game was cancelled. Twitter user @Tvsmattmackney tweeted, "It's not gonna happen and that breaks my greasy heart. -Guillermo del Toro on #SilentHills."

Reedus confirmed the quote when he tweeted, "Super bummed about this was really looking forward to it. Hopefully it'll come back around. Sorry everyone," alongside a link to an Undead Walking news story.

While this is a sad development for "Silent Hill" fans, it's not a total letdown. Players will still have the demo, whose mysteries have mystified fans for months. On top of that, the demo has received a lot of praise from the game press community. The Verge's Christopher Grant said that "P.T. isn't just one of the most clever pieces of video game marketing I've ever seen, it's also one of the best horror games I've ever played and the best game I've played this year."
