Amanda Bynes has reportedly been taking the drug Adderall for years, a source close to the actress told Radar Online. Reportedly the actress began taking the drug to help her keep her weight down. After Bynes was caught setting a fire in a California driveway the troubled actress was placed under a 5150 psychiatric hold.

According to Radar, Bynes "has been demanding that doctors giver her Adderall, which they are refusing to do. Amanda has been on Adderall for years for Attention Deficit Disorder. Like many other young women in Hollywood, Amanda took the drug to stay thin," a source told the website.

"The problem with someone like Amanda dealing with serious mental health issues is that Adderall can make their condition worse. For Amanda, this has meant increased paranoia," the source continued.

According to the New York Daily News, a former New York resident witnessed Bynes' downward spiral firsthand. Ana Rivera reportedly befriended the actress last November and told media agency Coleman-Rayner all about Bynes' strange behavior and antics.

Rivera told the media agency in an interview, which the Daily News obtained a copy of, that the former Nickelodeon star would often watch Marilyn Monroe movies on mute and was constantly talking to herself. She said the actress bounced between Manhattan hotels and a Wall Street apartment.

She told the agency that the Wall Street studio apartment was filthy and because Bynes didn't have a shower curtain the bathroom floor was always wet. She also said the actress had changed all her light bulbs to red because she "liked the way it made her look."

Rivera said at one point Bynes opened up to her confessing that she felt lonely since moving to New York from California.

"She opened up, and it was obvious she had problems, it was immediately obvious she didn't have any friends. When I asked if she'd met a lot of people since she moved to New York, she said she only me and another woman in the building," she told Coleman-Rayner, the Daily News reports.

"She has a hard time talking to people because she's so weird," Rivera continued. "She's all over the place. There's a lot of disorganization going on in her brain. She's literally hanging out with her dog. Amanda desperately needs help."
