Samsung has officially announced that it will be hosting its first ever developer's conference from October 27 to 29 at the Westin St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco.

The company announced the conference on Monday with a notice via e-mail to all potential developers. It is currently soliciting attendees through a dedicated website for the event. According to ZDNet, the scope of the event is currently unclear. Samsung promises more information "Later this summer." According to the website the conference will allow developers on the popular electronics giant's devices to "engage with industry leaders. Collaborate with fellow developers. Learn about new Samsung tools and SDKs."

Mobile devices will likely be the focal point of the conference. Google's Android operating system has served as the foundation for Samsung's devices like the Galaxy S4 for quite some time. Each has grown with the other as the devices and operating system both grow simultaneously in popularity. The two have been at odds with each other as efforts to consolidate development of their mobile devices. The company hopes this will give developers the tools they need to create unique apps for Samsung

It's possible that the company will take this opportunity to unveil a few new mobile devices as well. Apple has continuously said it would be unveiling some new mobile products in the fall. The placement of Samsung's conference on the calendar might set it up perfectly to compete in the public relations cycle with whatever Apple has in store for its customers. So far rumors are circulating about a new low-cost plastic iPhone Lite and iPhone 5s. A new iPad is a likely candidate for a fall release as well.

Meanwhile, Samsung's lineup of tablets and smartphones might be on the line for an update. A Samsung Galaxy S5 is obviously in the future, but how soon?

Despite the speculation many insider sources are saying the conference will be less about new hardware and more about creating an environment where developers can create software across Samsung's many product areas than about signaling a new direction for its mobile efforts.
