Chip Kelly took a break from his never-ending quest to remake the Philadelphia Eagles in his ideal "power spread" image to sit down with a handful of NFL and Philly beat reporters on Wednesday at the NFL owners meetings in Phoenix and discuss a myriad of topics pertaining to life, liberty and his pursuit of the Lombardi Trophy.

The most interesting aspect of Kelly's press conference - which he lovingly referred to as his "yearly dental appointment" - pertained to the trade with the St. Louis Rams which saw quarterback Nick Foles and a 2016 second-round pick go and quarterback Sam Bradford come.

Kelly, per Les Bowen of The Philadelphia Daily News, revealed that the original deal between the two sides didn't involve Foles at all and that Kelly, in fact, had no desire to see last season's opening day starter head elsewhere.

Ian Rapoport of NFL.com added that Kelly was hoping to send just a pick to the Rams in exchange for Bradford, whom he would then pair with Foles atop his signal-caller depth chart.

Rams head coach Jeff Fisher told Pro Football Talk in the wake of the trade that the reason he chose to enact the deal with Philadelphia was his desire for Foles, so it seems without the inclusion of Foles the trade would have likely involved another team - the Cleveland Browns, perhaps?

For the Eagles, a quarterback room that consisted of Bradford and Foles - and possibly Sanchez, though it's entirely possible that his re-signing with the team came only after Kelly realized he'd have to give up Foles to get Bradford - would be one of the strongest, depth-wise in the league.

If Bradford got injured, as history shows he very well may, or failed to live up to Kelly's expectations, Foles, whose athletic ceiling isn't as high but who brings a hefty amount of grit, toughness and intelligent to the position, would prove probably the most talented and capable No. 2 in the league, well equipped to take the reins if need be and lead the Eagles to some modicum of success.
