There's a lot of buzz surrounding Brett Morgen's "Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck," so much that the documentary will be getting a theatrical release before it airs on HBO.

First reported by Billboard, Morgen's close look at the late lead signer of Nirvana will be in theaters starting April 10 in 72 countries. In America, it will be screened in Los Angeles, New York City and Seattle, the city where Nirvana helped put grunge on the map, beginning on April 24. It hits HBO a month later on May 4 and will be released on DVD in November.

"Within 90 days, the whole world will have access to the film," Morgen told Billboard.

The theatrical run makes "Montage of Heck" eligible for the 2016 Academy Awards, where it could potentially compete for Best Documentary Feature. It has already premiered at both Sundance Film Festival and South By Southwest and will screen at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City on April 19.
