An abandoned dog in a Dallas park saved the day when he led a woman to an exhausted mother and her letter of 10 sick newborn puppies.

The dog, who was appropriately named Hero, barked loudly to get a passerby to come follow him to his distressed friend and her puppies.

Marina Tarashevsce, the rescuer, told Fox News Insider that she always saw Hero with another dog who she believed was pregnant. When she saw Hero barking in "distress" her friend, John Miller (who happens to be a dog behaviorist), decided they should follow him to see what was wrong.

"He [Hero] led us right to the puppies," Tarashevsce told Fox News Insider. "He led us to a creek by the woods. And we heard little yelping of the puppies, so this is how we found them."

The puppies were shivering when the humans found them, reported CBS Local

The puppies, their mother, and Hero are all safely being cared for at a foster home. Once the puppies are weaned from their mother they will be put up for adoption.

It's unclear if Hero is the father of the puppies or just the mother's best friend.
