Warner Bros. and DC have been banking a lot on the success of next year's super villain team-up film "Suicide Squad" which will be directed by David Ayer ("Fury"). Not only is the movie an important expansion of the DC Cinematic Universe, but it also will reintroduce The Joker who is expected to play a major role in the DCCU going forward.

However, The Joker will reportedly not be the primary antagonist of the film.

(Warning: This may contain possible spoilers for "Suicide Squad.")

Instead, that role is rumored to be reserved for a DC Comics character named Antiphon, according to Umberto Gonzalez of Latino Review. Who is Antiphon and just what does this all mean?

Antiphon was a member of The Onslaught, a long running group of foils for the Squad. He appeared in just issues in the comics. But according to Gonzalez, this screen version of the character will be a commander with one leg and burns across his whole body.

As some of you may remember, actor Tom Hardy dropped out of the role of Rick Flag around the time that Ayer re-worked the script to focus more on Deadshot, Harley Quinn and The Joker. It was also rumored at the time that his character was working with the movie's main bad guy - Rick Flag Sr., his father. Though this rumor was never confirmed, it's possible that the character of Antiphon could really be a front for the elder Flag. In fact, actor Ed Harris - who appears in "Run All Night" with current Rick Flag Jr. actor, Joel Kinnaman - has been linked to the role in recent movie whispers.

Could Kinnaman's Flag Jr. really be a traitor? Will this Antiphon character really just be a cheap parlor trick to conceal Flag Sr.'s true identity? DC fans cannot wait to find out.
