The Pebble team announced Thursday that the company has received a total of 275,000 preorders, including the 85,000 it received during its Kickstarter campaign.

Pebble smart watches have been a huge success since the Kickstarter campaign last year whence the company logged 85,000 orders. After that there was no stopping. The enthusiasm for the wearable devices grew after the Palo Alto, Calif.-based startup started selling its smart watches through its website.

Pebble logged 190,000 preorders through its website, reaching a milestone of 275,000 preorders.

"This is great news for users and developers," Pebble Chief Executive Eric Migicovsky wrote. "More Pebbles = more of a market and demand for Pebble watchapps. With the goal of getting Pebble onto as many wrists as possible, our manufacturing team is constantly working to improve quality and increase capacity. Every day thousands of new Pebbles are rolling off the line."

The Pebble team said that it had shipped over 93,000 smart watches to backers and customers in over 150 countries worldwide. The startup, which currently has over 29 employees, is ramping up to meet the demand of thousands of customers. The debut of the Pebble smart watch in Best Buy stores last week should give the company another boost with more orders falling in line as the total preorders listed above do not include any Best Buy sales.

Migicovsky said that the company is working hard to succeed in achieving its goals. The company further plans to build a solid foundation for third-party app development on Pebble. With encouraging sales, Pebble users have already downloaded more than one million apps, according to the company.

"We won't stop until we've created the best platform for you to write the wearable app you've been dreaming of," Migicovsky wrote.

The Pebble smart watch has an e-paper display, which gives users quick access to text messages, phone calls, or fitness data when paired with any Android or iOS device via Bluetooth.

In the mean time, Apple has been reportedly filing trademark applications for "iWatch" across the globe, hopefully with the intention of launching its own smart-watch.

If the wearable gadget becomes the sensation that Pebble is claiming it is, then competitors are likely to come up with smart watches with competitive specs, designs and prices very soon.
