Veronica Roth, author of the "Divergent" trilogy, has a new two-book series on the way.

The as-of-yet unnamed series is being described as a "duology in the vein of 'Star Wars,'" and the first installment is set to come out in 2017.

"Veronica Roth explores - with poise and poignancy - the story of a boy who forms an unlikely alliance with an enemy," HarperCollins Publishers said in a press release on Monday. "Both desperate to escape their oppressive lives, they help each other attain what they most desire: for one, redemption, and the other, revenge."

Roth's work has been compared to Suzanne Collins' "The Hunger Games" and James Dashner's "The Maze Runner" for its post-apocalyptic themes and narratives containing a strong female protagonist, according to the Huffington Post. The content - geared toward young adult readers - often contains recurring motifs such as the transition from childhood into adulthood.

"I'm really enjoying working on this new series," the 26-year-old author said. "I can't wait to share it with readers!"

The new novels are said to be based on a male character whose creation served as a catapult for the storyline. "All the other elements -- setting, world, even a substantial portion of the plot -- came after," she told the AP.

"I've been really taking my time with it. I've written huge sections a certain way only to cut them and start again. I've stepped away for a while, to work on other things, and then come back when I have better perspective. I've been more patient with myself and with the story. I've expanded my collection of comfortable pants and snack foods. It's all working quite well so far."

The news comes just a few weeks before the release of "Insurgent," the second film based on her bestselling trilogy.

"Insurgent" hits theaters on March 20.
