"The Walking Dead" is in full swing and season three of "House of Cards" is now available to shamelessly binge watch as of Friday.

What about "True Detective," HBO's hit drama and one of television's other darlings?

News and rumors about the second season have been few and far between since the first installment of the anthology series ended last March. In true anthology fashion, though, Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson and the Yellow King storyline will all be absent in the upcoming season. Here's what else we know about it so far:

Confirmed actors and actresses

Once again, two very different police officers with issues will be at the forefront. Collin Farrell and Rachel McAdams both play officers of the law. Farrell will portray a dirty cop and McAdams a straight-laced sheriff with a few skeletons in her closet, according to Vulture.

Vince Vaughn

will play main antagonist and crime boss Frank Semyon. Taylor Kitsch has a main role as a patrolman who served in a war.

Plot

The Yellow King storyline may be a thing of the past, but nobody said the occult theme will leave the series. As The Wrap reported months back, the second season will begin similarly to the first - a mutilated body will be found and evidence will point to a cult. Check out the synopsis the staff at The Wrap got its hands on below:

"The second season of True Detective will follow the death of Ben Caspar, the corrupt City Manager of a fictional California city who's found brutally murdered amidst a potentially groundbreaking transportation deal that would forever change the freeway gridlock in California. Three law enforcement officers from different cities and branches of the government are tasked with finding out who did it. They soon discover their investigation has much broader and darker implications than they initially thought.

Caspar's 52-year-old corpse is found on a lonely stretch of the PCH near Big Sur-his eye burned out, genitals cut off and satanic symbols etched on his chest. It turns out he had a penchant for rough sex and may have been involved in the Occult."

Setting

Say goodbye to the Louisiana Delta. Season two is being filmed in Los Angeles and will also take place in California.

Crew

"True Detective" has always been the brainchild of Nic Pizzolatto, and the second season is no different - he is writing all eight episodes. There will be changes in direction however, as a rotation of people will take turns. Cary Fukunaga, who won an Emmy for his work on the first season, is on board solely as a producer, according to Vulture. The first two episodes of the new season will be directed by Justin Lin.

Release Date

There is no official release date, but it is rumored that season two will air at some point this upcoming summer. Filming began on Nov. 17, 2014, according to Vulture.
