Though Kate Middleton and Prince William are now as a strong as ever as the couple awaits the arrival of their royal baby, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had a rough break-up before their engagement, and HollywoodLife has the inside scoop on why the beloved British couple may have never happened.

A new book, entitled "Kate" by Marcia Moody, details the royal couple's split in 2007 with plenty of detail. Moody claims that the couple reached a crossroads in their four-year relationship during a rocky period.

"When his father Charles was wooing Diana and the relationship reached a crossroads, Prince Philip told him that he needed to take action one way or another. And Charles proposed. When William was faced with a similar dilemma he went the other way," Moody writes.

Moody claims that Middleton was devastated by the break-up, which was only worsened when Prince William went to a London nightclub to flirt with others girls, even standing on a table at one point during the night and shouting, "I'm free!"

Middleton started getting her own subtle revenge following the split, according to Moody, wearing shorter skirts and lower-cut tops. "Once inside a party she put on a pair of pink silk bunny ears and proceeded, as one party-goer put it, to 'tease all the boys,'" Moody writes.

Middleton's alleged tactics seemed to work to get back her prince, as the Duke realized he wanted Middleton all along, even though his father had insisted that his true love was Camilla Shand, who he had failed to marry.

"We were both finding ourselves and being different characters," Prince William stated at the time. "It was very much trying to find our own way and we were growing up so it was just a bit of space and it worked out for the better."

In "Kate," Moody details the events leading up to the royal engagement. "Kate and William had a lot to discuss, and some lost time to make up for," she wrote. "In September [2007], they flew to the Seychelles in the Indian Ocean. At night they relaxed over a candlelit supper on the beach. It was during this break that they made an agreement with each other. For the next few years, they would work and enjoy their lives, knowing that at some point when the time was right, they would be husband and wife - and perhaps parents too."

Middleton is due to give birth in several days, her unofficial due date either on July 11 or July 13. The Duchess has made special preparations for the birth of her first child, including lavish nurseries decorated with simple, sophisticated colors and clean lines that she is a fan of. She has reportedly even created a special birth playlist that will help her relax during the big day.
