Jimmy McMillan, the founder of the populist Rent Is Too Damn High party, is facing eviction from his $872 per month apartment in his Manhattan neighborhood, according to Gothamist. McMillan's rent-stabilized apartment is in a desirable East Village neighborhood, St. Mark's, but the landlord claims that McMillan has a primary residence in Brooklyn.

McMillan filed a lawsuit with the Brooklyn Federal Court hoping to stop the eviction and is demanding $1.3 million in damages. The 68-year-old Vietnam veteran and self-proclaimed karate expert said the eviction is an attempt to oust tenants of rent-controlled apartments and it has nothing to do with an alleged Brooklyn residence, according to Gothamist.

"I'm going to fight it to the very last day," McMillan told MSN. "What's happening to me is happening to the people. They could get a ton of money for that apartment."

According to MNS Real Estate, a one-bedroom apartment in the East Village can cost from $2,600 to $3,800 and the rates are on the rise.

The political activist - and former stripper - could be out of an apartment on Feb. 5.
