A new NASA photo that appears to show a workman fixing a space Rover on Mars has conspiracy theorists going crazy.

A set of pictures taken by NASA appear to show a human-like figure looming over and fixing the Mars Curiosity Rover, which is scanning the Red Planet.

The photo was taken in 2002, although it was just recently leaked to the public, reported Huffington Post

"The person has no helmet and their short hair is visible and in high detail," Taiwan-based ufologist Scott Waring wrote in a post on his blog UFO Sightings Daily. "The person has on air tanks on their back and a suit that covers most of the body except the hair."

Others speculate that the shadow may be part of the rover and the angle just looks like a human, reported HuffPost.

Seeing faces in unusual places is actually a common human phenomenon called Pareidolia. This psychological phenomenon is a type of apophenia, which is a more generalized term for seeing patterns in random data.

"This underlines the fact that such things literally lurk in the shadows and play with our imagination," Nigel Watson, author of the UFO Investigations Manual, told Mail Online
