Julia Roberts will spearhead the feature film adaptation of Miles Scott a.k.a. Batkid, who had his Make-A-Wish dream come true in the streets of Gotham (otherwise known as San Francisco).

Roberts will star and produce the film that will adapt the real-life story portrayed in the documentary, "Batkid Begins: The Wish Heard Around the World," premiering at the Slamdance Film Festival today, according to Deadline.

"It's thrilling to me that Ms. Roberts and her team watched our film and were so moved by it that they want to dedicate their time and creative capital to make sure the widest audience possible will know and love Miles' story and the spirit of this intimate special event that went global, as much as we do," Dana Nachman, who directed the documentary and will serve as an executive producer on the feature, told Deadline.

In 2013, a 5-year-old Scott, who had been battling leukemia for half his life, asked the Make-A-Wish Foundation to make him "a real Batman." The foundation's Greater Bay Area branch transformed San Francisco into Gotham City for the day and teamed up Batkid with a Batman for staged missions.

The event garnered global media attention and brought 25,000 people out to watch Scott save the day. Another 2 billion more followed along on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

The first trailer for the crowdfunded "Batkid Begins" premiered at 2014 Comic-Con San Diego in July. "Star Wars" artist Drew Struzan created the movie poster.
