PlayStation 4 owners who want better streaming options will be happy to hear that the media player Plex has launched for the popular gaming console in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

The app now gives owners of Sony's PS4 and PS3 the ability to stream their favorite movies, TV shows and music to their consoles, according to PC Magazine. Users can stream content to computers and other devices as well.

Jamaal Moore, a brand marketing manager at Sony Computer Entertainment America, wrote in a blog post that Plex will keep all of your movie, TV, music, photo and video collections organized for you to enjoy, adding that the service "makes all your media beautiful by automatically incorporating movie posters, plot summaries, album covers and descriptions."

The North American launch follows a month after the app became available for the PlayStation Network in Europe and Asia.

Plex delayed the original release in North America, having said it took "a while to work out all the details" with Sony, The Verge reported.

Additional information Plex users will see about movies and TV shows includes cast details and ratings.

The current version of Plex for PlayStation in North America only allows for movie and TV streaming, but users will be able to stream music and photos at a later date, PC Magazine reported.

Plex for PlayStation won't be free to download like it is on other platforms. The app will only be available to Plex premium subscribers for $5 a month, $40 a year or $150 for a lifetime membership.
