A 15-year-old Texas girl who recently stayed home from school sick with the flu passed out in the shower and died.

Kobi Pickett, 15, shocked her Houston community Sunday when she died after passing out in the shower and crashing through the glass door.

"She was so smart, she was ahead in all of her classes. She would even ask us to tutor her to get ahead in her classes," Amana Waheed, a friend, told Houston TV station KHOU

Waheed was in Pickett's art class and remembers telling her that she was a good artist, although Pickett humbly denied it.

Pickett's devastated parents, Stephanie and Don, wrote an obituary for their daughter Monday night - one day after the tragedy.

"On Sunday night, January 11, 2015, our beautiful, innocent baby girl was taken from us through a horrific accident," they wrote. "She loved swimming and snorkeling at Barton Springs, tumbling, walks with our dog Murphy, track, soccer, water skiing, photography, baking sweets, decorating birthday cakes, face-time with friends, babysitting, and all the kids in the neighborhood. Kobi loved her Nana and visited regularly. She loved all her family, especially the cousins, and spending 'family time' on the couch."

This tragic death comes in a particularly bad year for the flu in the U.S. and the Ceners for Disease Control and Prevention has since declared it an epidemic.
