At its E3 Direct press event Tuesday, Nintendo road on the coat tails of a lot of its most popular franchises offering gamers updates and new installments of popular titles like "Super Mario Bros.," Super Smash Bros.," "Donkey Kong" and "Mario Kart." Nintendo added Pokemon to the list of memorable franchises that are getting a new addition.

"Pokemon" X and Y will be available for the Nintendo 3DS on Oct. 12, worldwide according to the company. The biggest announcement in the Pokemon world was the unveiling of the 18th type of Pokemon, the Fairy. The new type is supposed to be very effective against Dragons and includes a new evolution to Evee called Sylveon as well as retroactively including Jigglypuff, Fardevoir and Marill. There is no word yet if these Pokemon will retain their current type.

The games will also include two new Pokemon, Noivern and Vivillon. IGN reports Nintendo has said Sylveon "is an Intertwining Pokemon that can manipulate its ribbonlike feelers at will and can emit from them an aura that can calm people and other Pokemon. It often wraps these feelers around the arm of its Trainer as it walks behind him or her. Sylveon can learnMoonblast, a new Fairy-type move debuting in Pokemon X and Pokemon Y. Moonblast calls on the power of the moon to attack an opposing Pokemon. This move can be very powerful and also lowers the opposing Pokemon's Attack stat."

Noivern, on the other hand is "a Sound Wave Pokemon (flying and Dragon type) "that is extremely combative and will attack anything that wanders too close to it. Flying through the dark night with ease, Noivern uses the ultrasonic waves it emits from its ears to attack. These waves are so strong they can reduce large boulders to small pebbles. A new Normal-type move in Pokemon X and Pokemon Y that perfectly suits Noivern is Boomburst. This move emits an explosive sound wave that attacks all surrounding Pokémon with the resulting energy."

The new game also has a pet option called "Pokemon Amie" that allows users to gain a closer relationship with their favorite Pokemon through interactive 3DS controls.
