Chicago (8-4) has been able to overcome playing shorthanded for most of the season, but their undefeated streak on the road ended Thursday with a 103-88 loss at Sacramento.  The Bulls were without Derrick Rose (hamstring) and Pau Gasol (calf), and both players appear doubtful for Friday's contest.

In regard to Rose, coach Tom Thibodeau has no issue with sidelining Rose for however long the former MVP needs.

"If a guy is injured, he should sit, and if a guy is hurting, he should play," Thibodeau said, via ESPN.  "It's really that simple.  Right now, Derrick's not ready to go.  He's injured.  That's where I stand on [the issue].  The guy's had two major injuries; if he needs time, we're going to give him time."

In Rose's absence, Jimmy Butler has stepped up and leads the team with 21.5 points per game.  If Rose misses Friday, it would be his fourth straight game on the bench.  As for Gasol, he sounded hopeful about returning soon.

"I didn't feel a pop," said Gasol, who's missed two consecutive games.  "(The left calf) just started bothering me.  It started being sore.  I was hoping I got hit but I couldn't recall getting hit.  So then you had to figure it was a muscle strain, and strains usually take their time to heal and scar.  So I'm just trying to let it heal."

Portland, meanwhile, is 8-3 and the winner of five straight games.  Their latest victory came on Monday with a 102-93 win against New Orleans.
