"Modern Family" cancelled - this has to be the worst trick ever.

Actor Eric Stonestreet posted a link on Twitter to a bogus report claiming that the family friendly show had been cancelled, with the comment "So Sad." The actor was referring to a story created by The Onion's spinoff site, Clickhole.

The headline of the story read, "Whoa: ABC Just Canceled "Modern Family" In Order To Teach People That Something You Love Can Be Taken From You With No Warning Whatsoever"

Take a breather - Modern Family is not cancelled.

"Modern Family" star Jesse Tyler Ferguson, tweeted, "A website called ClickHole wrote that ‪#ModernFamily is cancelled. You guys. The website is called CLICKHOLE. No, we aren't cancelled."

The story was a Halloween prank, which included a false statement from ABC executive Leon Kisch, according to E! News.

"It saddens us to cancel a show as beloved as 'Modern Family,' but people need to be taught that having something you cherish suddenly as inexplicably wrenched from your grasp is intrinsic to life," said a false statement from Kisch. "Fans of the show are better off learning that sooner rather than later, so they're prepared when it happens over and over again for the rest of their lives."

The story also included a comment from the show's star Julie Bowen, who said, "We've had a blast making this show for the last six seasons, but I trust the network's decision to cancel it as a way of showing people firsthand just how quickly the things that we love can be erased from existence."

"In an instant. In the blink of an eye. When we least expect it and it hurts us most. If 'Modern Family' has to die in order for people to realize that, then that's just the price we'll have to pay," the fake announcement adds.

It didn't take long for Twitter users to response to the false cancellation.
