Samsung is upping the ante on its mid-priced offering by announcing three new Galaxy A smartphones as early as next month.

Samsung, the world leader in smartphone business, is quite touchy about losing its dominance to its rivals, be it Apple or an upstart company like Xiaomi. In a defensive move against losing ground to Xiaomi in China, Samsung is looking to win back its customers by launching its long-rumored Galaxy A series as early as next month, according to a report by Korea Times. Assuming the report has some authenticity, the Korean tech giant will finally put an end to the series of rumors swirling around Galaxy A3, A5 and A7 smartphones.

There might not be concrete evidence of the smartphones' specs but it is certain that the Galaxy A series will come as an affordable alternative to consumers. After all, the tech giant is betting against Xiaomi's feature-packed low-priced smartphones like the Mi and Redmi series.

Xiaomi has built an impressive image for its brand in China and in India, where the smartphone sells exclusively through e-commerce site Flipkart. In China, the three-year-old company has already dethroned Samsung to become the leading smartphone brand in the country, which has long been an important market for Samsung. The company is so successful that it is now the world's third largest smartphone brand in terms of shipments during the third quarter this year.

Samsung's rumored A series has been a subject of speculation. Just last month, a Tenaa listing showed the specifications of the Galaxy A3 smartphone, based on which it is clear the A3 is the most basic smartphone among the new launches. The Galaxy A5 was spotted on an online retailer's website based in Kazakhstan and a separate GFXBench results showed the Galaxy A7 and its specs. Based on the reports, the A5 smartphone is expected to be the mid-range phone with decent specs and the A7 will take the high-end approach in the budget-friendly consumer market.

The pricing of the devices remain a mystery but more details are likely to appear at launch early next month.
