Oppo announces a new addition to its smartphone lineup, the R5, to win the impressive title of the world's slimmest smartphone.

Oppo, the Chinese smartphone company, is trying to beat the crowded smartphone space with its new entries. The smartphone maker has announced an all-new R5 smartphone. Advertised as the world's slimmest smartphone, R5 is a key player in the company's premium smartphone offerings. The R5  measures just 4.85mm in thickness, beating the 5.15mm-thick Gionee Elife S5.1 and even the 6.9mm thick iPhone 6,  to win the slimmest smartphone title.

Oppo has also managed to squeeze quite a few worthy features into the thin profile. The R5 sports a metallic body with a 5.2-inch full HD AMOLED display powered by an octa-core (quad 2.1GHz and quad 1.5GHz), 64-bit Snapdragon 615 SoC and 2GB RAM, Engadget reports. The rotatable camera isn't an option in the R5 but it packs a 13-megapixel rear facing camera and 5 megapixels in the front. Sadly, those who want to add extra storage will be disappointed as it lacks a microSD slot and has 16GB built-in space for your music, videos and photos.

Oppo has also focused on its outer design with "hand polished steel" to ensure a good feel while holding it in your hand. The materials used in the R5's body absorb heat to avoid overheating due to constant usage. The Oppo R5 features fast focus with each touch and captures Ultra HD photos with 50MP Pure Image photo stiching feature, the company said on its official website.

Finally, like the Oppo N3 smartphone, the R5 also comes with a VOOC mini Rapid Charger to power up the 2,000mAh battery from 0-75 percent in just 30 minutes. It runs Android KitKat 4.4 out of the box with Color OS 2.0 on it. The R5 can also be controlled with a tiny O-Music Bluetooth accessory to change a track or trigger the camera to capture photos.

Oppo did not reveal the launch date for the R5 but it will be available alongside N3 smartphone in Australia, Bangladesh, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Myanmar, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, the UAE, Vietnam and China. The R5 will go on sale for $499 compared to N3's $649 price tag.
