The first “Avengers” helped set up the storyline for “Thor: Ragnarok," which will in turn start the events of "Avengers: Infinity War Part I".

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige announced the next “Thor” installment during a Marvel Studios press event on Tuesday. It may be the final film with Chris Hemsworth as the Marvel superhero, but it is one of the most important films that will kick off the third and fourth “Avengers” installments.

"This is a very important movie for us in Phase 3," Feige said. "We plan on taking Thor to another level. It picks up where we leave Thor in 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' and impacts everything that comes after."

ComicBook reports Loki’s scepter feature in “The Avengers” contained an Infinity Stone, which will be an important part of the story line for “Avengers: Infinity War Part I” in 2018.

Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston, will be back “Thor: Ragnorak” will be coming to help set up the Marvel slate in 2017.

“In the comics, Loki helped to precipitate the Ragnarok storyline (or at least one of the stories named that -- there have been a few) by freeing Surtur and a number of other villains from custody on Asgard,” according to ComicBook. “Having spent some time in custody there himself, and currently sitting on Asgard's throne, Loki is in a uniquely convenient position to do just that.”
