The very popular "Star Wars: Battlefront" series of online shooters has seen some strange twists and turns since it's heyday on the PlayStation 2, PC, and original Xbox in the mid 2000's. There have been several iterations and supposed next-gen versions canceled since the last game, the PSP's "Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron," appeared in 2009.

But do not fret, Star Wars faithful, a new "Star Wars: Battlefront" title is coming for the 2015 holidays, Electronic Arts has announced (via Star Wars Underworld), it will be a first-person shooter, and it will be coming from seasoned "Battlefront" developers DICE.

EA CEO Andrew Wilson validated this news during an investor relations call. The regular, true military version of "Battlefront" is typically EA's big holiday blockbuster (and the main competitor for Activision's "Call of Duty" juggernaut), and as such, the next "Battlefield" game won't arrive until 2016. "This allows us to have a major first-person shooter title each year," the EA executive said.

There was also this tweet from the official EA account that definitively cast things in stone for this Holiday season:

At E3, it was also confirmed that "Star Wars: Battlefront" will, at the very least, feature Original Trilogy (Tatooine, Hoth, Endor, etc.) settings.
