Barbara Walters can't stay retired.

The legendary newscaster will return to host another installment of her popular "10 Most Fascinating People" special, a year after ABC had discontinued the special. The two-hour primetime special will air on Dec. 14 and highlight the year's most prominent names in the fields of entertainment, sports, politics and popular culture.

Walters has chosen Oprah Winfrey, Chelsea Handler, Scarlett Johansson and the newly-minted Oscar host Neil Patrick Harris as a few of the most fascinating people this year. More names will be announced soon.

"I was absolutely delighted when ABC approached me to do another year of '10 Most Fascinating People,'" Walters said in a statement. "I know we said last year was our last, but there are just too many fascinating people out there... and you never pass up the opportunity to interview Oprah, Neil, Chelsea or Scarlett."

The "10 Most Fascinating People" special began in 1993 and last year's list included Hillary Clinton, Miley Cyrus and Jennifer Lawrence. Walters serves as an executive producer on the program with her longtime business partner Bill Geddie, who will also direct the special.

Walters continues to serve as an executive producer for "The View" after retiring in May, but made a brief appearance in a pre-recorded segment for this season's premiere episode.

Walters also came out of retirement to conduct a 20/20 interview with Peter Rodger, the father of Elliot Rodger who committed the 2014 Isla Vista shooting, in June.

The revered journalist did look forward to having a few more days free in her retirement.

"I have always had a schedule. I've always had deadlines. I've always had things to do," Walters told ABC News in May. "It will be nice to get up and say, 'What do I have to do today? Nothing!'"

Barbara Walters' "10 Most Fascinating People" will air on Sunday, Dec. 14 at 9 p.m.
