After Apple's iPad reveal today critics are questioning whether or not the new device is going to sell after the company released the iPhone 6 Plus a few months ago.

"Apple and all other tablet makers are now competing with their own larger big-screen phones or phablets," Mark Spoonauer, editor in chief of Laptop Mag, tells MarketWatch. "What can you do with an eight-inch or 10-inch slate that you can't do with a 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus?"

Although this is still speculation, recent statistics back up the tech editor's theory.

In Apple's third-quarter revenue report, the company disclosed that 53 percent of its sales were from the iPhone, while the iPad only accounted for 16 percent of sales, MarketWatch reports.

Today Apple executives announced the new features of the updated model of the iPad, including a faster processor, updated camera, less reflective screen and a promised longer battery life.

However, some tech writers are questioning if it's enough to make people go out and spend the money to upgrade.

"[It's] really not enough to convince the average consumer to think that they need to buy them," Louis Ramirez, senior editor at DealNews.com, tells MarketWatch. "Without a significant price drop, the new features aren't worth it."
