Jan Hooks, an SNL star who worked with some of the biggest names in show business, died Thursday in New York City at the age of 57, TMZ reported.

According to TMZ's sources, Hooks had been seriously ill for some time.

Hooks was on SNL from 1986 to 1991, acting alongside Mike Myers, Chris Farley, Phil Hartman, Dana Carvey and Dennis Miller. She made her mark doing impressions of Sinead O'Connor and Hillary Clinton as well as being half of the Sweeney Sisters. Most recently, she had a role in NBC's "30 Rock" with Tina Fey.

She was originally passed over for Joan Cusack in 1985 for a spot on SNL. She was hired the next season, and became known for other roles like Brenda the Waitress in "The Diner" with co-star Alec Baldwin, according to The Huffington Post.

She joined the cast of "Designing Women" after departing from SNL. She also had a big role in "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure."

In 1998, her role in "3rd Rock from the Sun" earned her an Emmy nomination.

The actress was born in 1957 outside of Atlanta and got her break as part of the comedy group, The Groundlings.
