“Assassin’s Creed: Unity” co-op gameplay is intertwined with the single-player mode as the missions deal with historical events tied to the time period.

Ubisoft’s latest “Assassin’s Creed” installment takes place during the French Revolution. Arno, the main character, is employed by the Council of Assassins and is teamed up with his fellow Brotherhood members to complete missions.

Associate Level Design Director Christophe Rossignol explained to the official “Assassin’s Creed” DevBlog how developers approached the co-op and single player mode.

"When you begin a co-op mission, you get a short cinematic to explain the narrative context of the mission,” Rossignol explained, “because some are actual historical events like an assassination attempt on Napoleon, [or] the Women’s March (where woman were angry because they couldn’t feed their children, so they marched on Versailles to talk to the king about the lack of food in Paris). Once the cinematic is done, it’s all about gameplay… all about player action."

Unlike previous “Assassin’s Creed” titles, there isn’t set actions players must do in order to get full Synchronization.

“So, like, I’m killing someone stealthily and your co-op partner kills someone stealthily a second later, and you’ll both get rewarded with Creed Points because you have done a chain of actions together,” Rossignol said.

Working as a team with your fellow Assassins is the key to complete “Assassin’s Creed: Unity.” Developers are encouraging players to replay Brotherhood missions to earn different rewards each time.

"Most of the fun comes from the actions players execute together,” Rossignoi said. “We encourage players to play each mission around three times, because there are different rewards you can earn… and some missions include events that you won’t necessarily notice the first time, because they occur whether you are paying attention or not."

“Assassin’s Creed: Unity” will be released to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on Nov. 11.
