Apple's new campus is still underway but that hasn't stopped CEO Tim Cook from praising the upcoming headquarters as "the greenest building on the planet."

Speaking at the environmental nonprofit event Climate Week NYC  Monday, the CEO of Apple, Tim Cook, had words of praise for the upcoming giant headquarters. Cook was all praises about  how Apple Campus 2 was environmentally friendly and called it the greenest building on the planet.

"We're building a new headquarters that will, I think, be the greenest building on the planet," Cook said during his interview, according to The Verge. "It'll be a center for innovation, and it's something clearly our employees want and we want."

Apple's upcoming Campus 2, nicknamed "Spaceship campus," is clearly going to be one of the coolest office spaces around the world. The tech giant is widely advertising the environmentally conscious features of the Campus 2. Apple has revealed that its entire headquarters will be powered by 100 percent renewable energy sources with natural ventilation 75 percent time of the year, according to a new dedicated webpage on its official site.

Apple is building its new campus spread on a 171-acre land. The buildings occupy  2.8 million square feet and  the campus is surrounded by 100 acres of green space. More than 7000 trees, solar panel roof tops, 300 electric vehicle charging stations and daily commute using bio-fuel buses, public transit, bicycles, carpooling or walk, will add more to Apple's statement on environment friendliness.

recent video on YouTube captured by a flying drone showed the ongoing work on Apple's campus. The project, which was the brainchild and a dream of former Apple CEO Steve Jobs in 2011, is expected to complete in 2016.

With all its eco-friendly features, Apple is certain to win the title of the greenest building in the world, which is currently held by the Bullitt Center in Seattle. But it is still a long way before the operations start in the new Apple Campus 2.
