Florida State has announced that it has extended quarterback Jameis Winston's suspension for the entire game against Clemson, ESPN reports

Originally, Winston had been suspended for just the first half after yelling a profane sexual phrase on campus made popular by a recent Internet meme. Florida State then decided to extend Winston's suspension after discovering that he was not entirely honest or forthcoming about Tuesday's incident, according to ESPN sources.

"Based upon the results of our continuing investigation of Tuesday's incident involving Jameis Winston, we have decided to not play him for the entire game against Clemson on Saturday night," Florida State's Interim President Garnett S. Stokes and Athletic Director Stan Wilcox said in a joint statement Friday night.

The reigning Hesiman Trophy winner was allegedly seen yelling obscenities on campus Tuesday in yet another off-the-field incident. FSU students who witnessed the reported act began posting several messages on Twitter shortly after.

Winston apologized for this "selfish" act in a Wednesday news conference.

"First of all, I want to apologize to the university, my coaches and to my teammates," he said. "I'm not a 'me' person, but in that situation, it was a selfish act, and that's not how you do things around here. I want to apologize to my teammates because I have now made a selfish act for them. That's all."

Tuesday's off-field behavioral stunt is one of many in a long list for Winston. In 2013, he was investigated for sexual assault, yet no charges were ultimately filed. In April, Winston was suspended from the baseball team for three games and ordered to serve 20 hours of community service after being cited for stealing $32 worth of crab legs from a grocery store. Other minor legal bumps have occurred as well, but no arrests.

The top-ranked Seminoles take on No. 22 Clemson Saturday night. Backup quarterback Sean Maguire will start in place of the suspended Winston.
