Motorola ran out of Moto 360 smartwatches on its official store owing to a high demand for the  wearable.

Motorola, the renowned smartphone maker, received better-than-expected sales response for its coveted Moto 360 smartwatch. After its first commercial availability in the United States last Friday, the Moto 360 is listed as 'out of stock' on its  official webpage. The watch maker acknowledged the demand on Twitter, adding that the inventory will be limited for while. The smartwatch is also listed on Google Play Store and Best Buy's retail stores.

Moto 360 was the first to feature a circular design while the companies adopted a rectangular look for their watches. Motorola offered the first official look of the device in March but waited months before hitting the market. In the meantime, the company engaged the audience by launching a watch-face contest and releasing the watch's specs and features in bits and pieces.

The wearable market is flooded with entries from giants like Samsung, LG, Sony, Qualcomm and startups like Pebble. None of the companies offered Moto 360's round face design, which secured a safe position for Motorola. LG, however, has adopted the round faced design for its new LG G Watch R, shown at the IFA 2014 trade show. But the smartwatch is yet to release availability details.

This gives Motorola a wide window to position itself alongside the high-ranking smartwatch competitors like Samsung. The company did not give any details on the number of smartwatches sold through its official store, nor did it mention the stock it had when the sales began.

The Android Wear based smartwatch features a 1.65-inch circular display with scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass, leather band, water-resistance feature, smartphone notifications, heart rate monitor, pedometer, all-day battery life and a lot of other features.

The Moto 360 sells for $250 on Best Buy and Play Store. The official Motorola store will notify interested buyers when the smartwatch is back in stock.
