“Mortal Kombat X” finally gets a release date. The NetherRealm Studios title will officially launch worldwide on April 14, 2015.

The announcement comes on the heels of the title’s Gamescom 2014 appearance. “Mortal Kombat” creator Ed Boon recently spoke to IGN about what fans should expect from the upcoming game during the conference in August.

"It's a direct continuation, but the timespan it crosses is 25 years in length," Boon told IGN, referring to “Mortal Kombat X.” "There are periods that are directly after MK9, then there are periods that are five, ten, 15 and 20 years out. A lot of the events take place 25 years after where we see older versions of the characters, like Cassie Cage and all that. But it does jump around in time; it's not a linear thing."

However, the time jump in the storyline was a challenge for the development team. Boon explained the development team wanted to create a unique narrative, but may have pigeon-holed themselves with a 25-year jump.

"One thing that's certainly on my mind after jumping ahead 25 years, is I don't know where we'd go from here," Boon told IGN. "We wanted to do something bold, and this is a bold new story, despite the fact it's the tenth game. But when you jump ahead 25 years it's like... what do you do now?

“Do you jump in time again? Do you go back 25 years? Do you introduce a whole new cast? We'll worry about it when we reach it, but I do think it could be hard to continue, if we do another one."

Fans can at least expect a ton of blood, guts and gore. Check out the trailer for the upcoming “Mortal Kombat X” below. Click here for more of Boon’s interview with IGN.  The title will be released to the PS4, Xbox One, PS3, X360 and PC.
