A Great Dane is regretting stealing over 40 of its owner's socks.

After vomiting all day, the owners took the 3-year-old pup to the vet at DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital.

Upon abdominal radiographs, the veterinarian saw a lot of foreign material in the dog's stomach. Exploratory surgery was done to remove the material, which turned out to be nearly 44 whole socks!

"[They] kept removing sock after sock of all different shapes and sizes," Dr. Ashley Magee,  who opened the dogs stomach during surgery, tells USA Today.

The finding was so unusual the animal hospital submitted the x-ray into Veterinary Practice News' annual "They Ate WHAT?" contest, winning second place and a $500 prize.

The winnings are going into a Velvet Assistance Fund at DoveLewis, which helps fund medical emergencies for low income families, KOIN reports.

The Great Dane was also a winner of sorts, as he was sent home just one day after the surgery.
