Stephen Angelo Simpson, the half-brother to singer Jennifer Hudson, was arrested on Aug. 19 after allegedly stabbing his estranged wife's boyfriend. According to Van Buren County's local CBS affiliate WWMT, Simpson reportedly barged into the apartment of his estranged wife and stabbed the boyfriend repeatedly in the face.

Torrey Hunt, a neighbor who helped the boyfriend, told WWMT that the victim, identified as Charlie, ran to his house around 3 a.m. begging for help. Hunt said when he opened the door, there was blood everywhere.

"He said someone knocked on the door, he thought he was knocking on the door for somebody, and he started getting stabbed up," Hunt told the station. "I open the door and see blood everywhere. He was stabbed in his chin and his chest, he had puncture wounds in his chest and his arms and stuff."

Charlie was taken to the hospital where he received about 20 to 30 stitches and has since been released. Detective Adam DeBoer told WWMT that Simpson's wife had "locked herself in the bathroom until he left." It's not clear if the wife or the boyfriend was the intended target but neighbors told the station that this was not the first time Simpson popped up at his estranged wife's apartment.

"It appears to be an ongoing feud over a woman," DeBoer said.

According to WWMT, Simpson has a history of domestic violence and was currently on probation at the time of the stabbing. Most recently the 45-year-old was arrested for assaulting his wife last February. Police said Simpson arrived to the South Haven Police Department for questioning Tuesday afternoon.

"He was cooperative in the sense that he showed up for questioning, but not very cooperative overall," DeBoer said.

He is expected to be charged on Wednesday with attempted murder and first degree home invasion. So far Hudson has not made a statement about the stabbing or her half-brother's arrest. According to US Weekly, the two share the same father, Samuel Simpson.

Tragedy struck Hudson's family in 2008 when William Balfour, her sister's estranged husband, murdered her mother, brother and nephew. In 2012, Balfour was sentenced to three life sentences without parole.
