Legendary actor Robin Williams was found dead in his California home on Monday, Aug. 11. According to the New York Post, police responded to a 911 call at the home around 11:55 a.m. and found the "Mrs. Doubtfire" star unconscious on the floor. Williams was pronounced dead at the scene around 12:00 p.m.

The cause of death is still being investigated by the Marin County coroner's office but police suspect the 63-year-old actor died from suicide due to asphyxia. Sources told the Post that Williams was last seen at his home on Sunday evening.

Following the death, Williams' rep released a statement confirming the news and asking for privacy for the family.

"Robin Williams passed away this morning. He has been battling severe depression as of late. This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time."

Several actors, actresses and comedians flocked to Twitter to express their shock, sadness and grief over the sudden loss. President Obama even released a statement that read:

Robin Williams was an airman, a doctor, a genie, a nanny, a president, a professor, a bangarang Peter Pan, and everything in between. But he was one of a kind. He arrived in our lives as an alien - but he ended up touching every element of the human spirit.

He made us laugh. He made us cry.

He gave his immeasurable talent freely and generously to those who needed it most - from our troops stationed abroad to the marginalized on our own streets. The Obama family offers our condolences to Robin's family, his friends, and everyone who found their voice and their verse thanks to Robin Williams.
