Ellen DeGeneres announced via Twitter on Wednesday, July 23 that her wife Portia De Rossi landed a role on Season 4 of ABC's "Scandal."

"So annoying when people brag on twitter & that's why I'm not tweeting that Portia just signed on to do a top secret arc on 'Scandal.' Oops," DeGeneres tweeted.

The show's writers confirmed the news tweeting, "we are so excited to have Portia De Rossi joining up this coming season." There are absolutely no details about De Rossi's character except that she will appear on more than one episode.

"Apparently, Portia and 'Scandal' boss Shonda Rhimes are the only ones who know anything about what Portia will be playing," E! News wrote.

It was previously confirmed that actor Columbus Short would not return as Harrison Wright after his soon-to-be ex-wife accused him of assaulting her and allegedly threatening to kill her. Short also made headlines a few months ago for getting into a couple of fights.

So how will "Scandal" handle Short's exit from the series? "I think the key with every character's exit on all of our shows is the writers try to find the most appropriate and interesting and phenomenal way of exiting the character," EP Betsey Beers told E!. "I think, as a fan, they found an amazing explosive and dramatic way for him to exit."

Rhimes recently spoke to The Hollywood Reporter and confirmed that Harrison would be killed off but didn't reveal how. She also said his death will be a hard pill for the other characters to swallow.

"Olivia, really, but all the Gladiators are. It will be very devastating for Abby in a surprising way. You'll see how she's coping with it in a very different way than you would expect," Rhimes said.

Season 4 of "Scandal" returns Sept. 25.
