Box Inc. announced Monday that it has updated its app for iOS with a new feature called Box Notes that lets users share information more conveniently.

The feature was bumped up by the online storage provider to versions 3.2.0, and lets users create, edit and share notes, according to NDTV Gadgets.

Improved support for iWork files has also been added in the updated app.

Box announced in September that it was adding a beta version of Notes to its app and released the feature in May. Notes is also the company's first content-based creation and software made for office productivity, CITEworld reported.

The feature is designed to let users share information without having to switch to an external note-taking or a word processing app. The company said Notes is a component of its cloud storage service, which provides the app with the service's management features and enterprise security. Competing apps that Box Notes will be facing include Google's Docs and Keep, Microsoft's Word and OneNote, and tools from Quip and Evernote.

Users can create notes by going to the Add Items menu on the app and selecting "Create New Box Note". Notes will then be automatically stored with the other data for Box on cloud, NDTV Gadgets reported.

"Notes are automatically available to collaborators of the folder, so there's no need to share each individual note with the people who need it," Box said.

"At its core, Box Notes is about making it easy to work with others," the company explained in a blog post. "It promotes the sharing of information and collaboration. Live, concurrent editing lets everyone read and make changes instantly together. This is great for meetings - even when some participants aren't in the office. And with today's global workforce, not everyone is online and working at the same time - Box Notes is great for those situations too."

The app can be downloaded now for iPhone and iPad from the App Store.

Notes includes an interface similar to a word processor where users and colleagues can add and co-edit content in real time, and lets users add hyperlinks to documents. Box stated that the feature can be used for group task management, lightweight project planning and to-do lists for individuals, CITEworld reported.

Box added on Monday that it is looking to add Notes to its Android app later this summer.
