George R.R. Martin plays coy about rumors of his Song of Ice and Fire series will be more than seven novels.

The author spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the speculation of an eighth novel, claiming he plans on finishing in seven.

"My plan is to finish in seven," Martin told EW. "But my original plan was to finish in three. I write the stories and they grow. I deal with certain things and sometimes I find myself not at the end of a story. My plan right now is still seven. But first I have to finish Book Six. Get back to me when I'm half-way through Book Seven and then maybe I'll tell you something more meaningful."

However, Martin does believe seven seasons will not be enough for the HBO showrunners to finish the series.

"I don't think it will be enough to tell the story we're telling in the books," Martin told EW.

In regards to current fourth season of "Game of Thrones," Martin is pleased with the performances the actors have given thus far. Martin praised to EW regarding Pedro Pascal's performance as Prince Oberyn Martell.

"It's been a great season," Martin said. "Though by and large we are seeing more differences from the books and I've been predicting that from the beginning. There's a certain snowball effect of making changes and I think that will continue."

"As I've been saying for years, I wish they had more hours - every time I see another HBO show I wonder why we only have 10 and they have 13," he later added. "But we've done some major stuff this year. The Purple Wedding and Tyrion's trial - with incredible performances by Peter Dinklage and Sibel Kekilli. And the trial by combat was amazing, too. I'm really looking forward to next week as I'm told we have a battle that dwarfs the Battle of the Blackwater."

Regarding Martin's novel, the author recently announced two lucky fans could become characters in his Song of Ice and Fire saga. Martin is attempting to raise money for his favorite wolf sanctuary in Santa Fe, Calif., according to The Hollywood Reporter.

For a donation for $20,000, two fans can spend the day with Martin discussing his novels, the HBO series and anything else they wish to know about him. The characters created have no limits as to what their status in life is, but Martin promises they will be killed off in the most gruesome way. The contest is sponsored by Prizeo and you can check out more information about it here.
