Marvel's upcoming "Guardians of The Galaxy" will feature Josh Brolin as Thanos, but little details are known about the role the villain will play in the film until now.

Vulture reports Thanos' appearance will have a "Star Wars" feel to it in the first act of the film. Thanos also has "familial" ties to the female lead in the film Gamora, who is played by actress Zoe Saldana:

Thanos will be communicating remotely via hologram for most of the film - a move the Mad Titan likely cribbed from the equally enigmatic Emperor Palpatine in The Empire Strikes Back - though he does show up in the purple flesh for a scene that also features Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) and Nebula (Karen Gillan), who do Thanos's bidding and serve as the primary adversaries in Guardians. However, Thanos reportedly won't have a major role in the film's overall plot, according to Vulture. The Latino Review was first to break the Brolin's casting news in the Marvel film, but offered little insight as to what Thanos' could be planning in the film.

"Thanos is a member of The Eternals, a group of god-like beings with immense power, far beyond that of humans. Thanos is referred to as the 'Mad Titan' in the comics for attempting to wipe out the entire human race with his Infinity Gauntlet, capable of manipulating, time, space, reality and even the human soul," the Latino Review reports.

"We don't know how big Thanos' plan is, but we know from Thor: The Dark World that The Collector is collecting powerful mystical objects that most speculate will make up the Marvel Cinematic Universe's version of the Infinity Gauntlet. If the Gauntlet is coming to screen, so is Thanos."

"Guardians of the Galaxy" will be released to theaters on Aug. 1. Check out the trailer for the Marvel film below.
