A man who illegally immigrated to the U.S. was arrested after allegedly holding a woman captive in an Idaho home for 18 months, the New York Daily News reported.

The 27-year-old victim escaped and notified authorities in Twin Falls County about the situation. They eventually arrived at a home in Buhl owned by Oscar Ayala-Arizmendi, 36, where they discovered elaborate traps and restraints used on the victim.

Ayala-Arizmendi faces rape, kidnapping, and drug charges and made his first court appearance on Wednesday, where bail was declared at $1 million.

According to the victim, she escaped from the home on April 8 with the help of her brother and contacted police on April 26. She reportedly told officers that Ayala-Arizmendi forced her to smoke meth at least once a week, the Daily News said.

Documents say the woman began living with him over two years ago, but he later began raping and beating her "more times than she could count." She also claimed he would use a hammer and wood plank to subdue her.

The records also state Ayala-Arizmendi would tie a rope around the woman's neck and walk her around the house "like a dog."

Though she previously tried to escape, each time resulting in a beating. He also threatened to "cut her up into small pieces and flush her down the toilet."

As officers arrested Ayala-Arizmendi, he threw a glass pipe into the bathtub. Shortly after, he tested positive for meth, the Daily News said.

The identify of the victim has not been released.
