Twitter announced in a blog post Wednesday that it has added a photo tagging feature and allowed inclusion of photos in a tweet into itsplatform. This is to let users have easier interaction with their followers.

Photo tagging has been a long-standing feature in Facebook, Twitter's rival. It has been proven to open connections and communication between friends. With a similar feature added in Twitter, its users will be able to enjoy the same thing.

The new photo tagging feature lets users tag up to 10 people in one tweet while not affecting the tweet's character count. Those who will be tagged in the photo will receive a notification. If they don't want to receive notifications, they can turn it off in their settings. Privacy options, including restrictions on who can tag you in photos, can also be customized.

Twitter users can now also include up to four photos in one tweet, which will automatically be arranged into a grid-type collage. The photos can still be viewed in full quality just by tapping one photo and swiping sideways.

The two new features were rolled out Wednesday in a 16.3MB-update on the iPhone application.

According to Twitter's Help Center, users need to tap "Who's in this photo?" and type the full name or just @ plus the username to tag people in their photos. After selecting the people, just tap "Done." Users can add a GIF, JPEG, or PNG files of up to 3 megabytes. However, BMP, TIFF, and animated GIF files will not be accepted.

If a user doesn't want to be tagged in a photo he was tagged, he just needs to tap into the detail view of the Tweet, tap the "***" and click "Remove tag from photo.

Support for Android devices and its platform for personal computers, on the other hand, is coming out soon.
