Police in Los Angeles are investigating a disturbing discovery after a woman's body was found in a residential trash can outside of a home.

The LAPD was called to Wentworth St. in the Sunland neighborhood on Tuesday morning.

The woman's body was found inside a snowboard bag ,but there were no obvious signs of trauma, according to KABC-TV.

The medical examiner is attempting to identify her and determine her cause of death.

Police say there were zip ties in the trash can along with the body.

It wasn't clear how long the body had been there but neighbors said they noticed a foul smell starting on Monday.

"Somewhat shocking," said neighborhood resident Carrie Tucker. "It is a relatively nice area. Everybody stays to themselves."

Police were going door-to-door to look for possible security camera footage that might help solve the case.

"I'm scared," neighborhood resident Maria Markarian told KNBC-TV. "I just want to know exactly what happened."

The case is being investigated as a homicide.
