New York City Mayor Eric Adams stopped by the Lower Manhattan courthouse where former President Donald Trump is on trial and expressed confidence Tuesday that he'd get a fair hearing.

"Our city is a fair city," Adams told reporters, according to Deadline.

The assertion came after Adams said it was "beyond my pay grade" to address suggestions that New Yorkers couldn't be impartial toward Trump, the first ex-U.S. president to face criminal charges.

City voters overwhelmingly favored President Joe Biden over Trump in the 2020 election, 77% to 23%.

"I am just here to make sure that if the trial is taking place, that it is done in a very orderly fashion," Adams said. "As you can see, that is what is happening right now. And hats off to the court officers."

On Monday, more than half of the first 96 prospective jurors summoned for Trump's hush money trial were excused after telling the judge they couldn't be fair and impartial.

But six jurors were sworn in Tuesday afternoon, with the selection process for six other potential jurors to continue.

A second panel of 96 prospective jurors was told to return to the courtroom Thursday morning.

A total of 12 jurors, plus alternates, is needed.

Trump has pleaded not guilty to 34 felony counts of falsifying business records to allegedly cover up the payment of $130,000 to adult film star Stormy Daniels shortly before the 2016 election in which he beat Hillary Clinton.

Daniels, real name Stephanie Clifford, claims she and Trump had an affair in 2006.

Trump denies that and the criminal allegations against him.
