Police in Georgia have identified the suspect accused of ramming an SUV into a gate outside the FBI's Atlanta field office on Monday.

Dekalb County Police said Ervin Lee Bolling was arrested on a preliminary charge of interference with government property. The FBI on Monday said the agency was looking into both state and federal charges to be determined following an investigation, TMX reported.

The crash occurred shortly after noon when the SUV followed an authorized vehicle through the front gate, Fox News reported.

A pop-up barricade was activated, stopping the vehicle and crumpling its hood, according to video of the scene.

"He ... tried getting into the gate, but our security precautions prevented him from getting in," FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Peter Ellis told reporters.

The driver reportedly got out and headed for the FBI building.

"Several of our special agents who were passing by apprehended the man after he exited his vehicle," the FBI said in a statement.

The suspect was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for a mental evaluation and treatment of any injuries.

"Agents and bomb techs checked the car as a precaution as a part of our standard operating procedure," the FBI said.

The motive for the incident remains unclear, and the investigation is ongoing.
