At least nine people including a teenage girl were injured during a Russian missile attack on Ukraine on Monday.

Falling debris also damaged at least two buildings in central districts of Kyiv.

Mayor Vitali Klitschko issued a warning on his Telegram channel as the attack began "Explosions in the capital. Urgently to the shelter!", the BBC reported.

Two ballistic missiles fired from occupied Crimea were intercepted, the Associated Press reported.

Ukraine Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, posted a video on X showing school children in Kyiv running for cover.

"There are no atrocities Russian bastards would not commit, including an attempt of a ballistic strike at the heart of a multimillion city," he said.

U.S. Ambassador Bridget A. Brink said Russia had fired hypersonic missiles in the attack.

"Loud explosions in Kyiv," she said in a post on X. "Over the last 5 days, Russia has launched hundreds of missiles and drones against a sovereign country."

It was the third missile attack in five days on the capital city.

Russia has escalated aerial attacks on Kyiv in recent days, targeting key infrastructure in the wake of fatal Ukrainian bombardments on Russian border regions.

At least two explosions were also reported in Odesa. There was no immediate word on injuries or damage there.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy continued his plea for more Western military aid in the wake of the attack.

"We never tire of repeating that Ukraine needs more air defense," he said. "This is security for our cities and saves human lives."
