Using your Facebook or Google ID to sign into Yahoo services will soon be a matter of the past as the web giant will require users to have a Yahoo ID for its services.

Yahoo has initiated a gradual elimination of letting people access services like "Yahoo Sports Tourney Pick'Em up" with their Facebook or Google IDs. Users will need a Yahoo ID in order to get into the fantasy college basketball service, henceforth. It does not stop there, as Reuters notes, the company will soon remove Facebook and Google sign-in buttons from all its products including Flickr and Fantasy Sports.

This is the latest change to Yahoo services by CEO Marissa Mayer in her efforts to transform the company into a mobile content hub with deep personalization for better user experience and finances. The latest move by Yahoo will help the company track and offer personalized experience, which is not feasible for those with Facebook or Google IDs.

"Yahoo is continually working on improving the user experience, which includes our sign-in process for Yahoo Sports Tourney Pick'Em," a Yahoo spokesperson told CNET. "This new process, which now asks users to sign in with a Yahoo username, will allow us to offer the best personalized experience to everyone."

The company has come a long way since Mayer took over in 2012. Mayer redesigned Yahoo Mail and Yahoo Finance, launched Yahoo News Digest and new magazines for food and tech. This is just the work done on existing services, the company has added nearly 30 startups to its portfolio over the past two years. Yahoo's focus in acquiring mobile app making companies clearly shows the company's focus in taking the center-stage in smartphone and tablet sectors.

As for non-Yahoo ID holders, the web giant freed up a series of new usernames by retiring abandoned identities.
