Meta finally explained why Facebook and Instagram were down. On Tuesday, Mar. 5, hundreds of thousands of users panicked because they were suddenly logged out of their Facebook accounts.

Some users can't access their Facebook and Messenger. Meanwhile, others couldn't load their Instagram feeds. Due to these sudden issues, many people speculated that Meta's systems were hacked.

Finally, a Meta official decided to disclose what caused these major outages on their platforms. Was it really a security breach? Here's what the communications director explained.

Meta Reveals Cause of Facebook, Instagram Outage

According to UNILAD's latest report, Meta Director of Communications Andy Stone announced what caused the alarming outages on Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger.

"Earlier today, a technical issue caused people to have difficulty accessing some of our services," he said via his official X post.

"We resolved the issue as quickly as possible for everyone who was impacted, and we apologize for any inconvenience," added the Meta official.

In the comment section, many users shared their frustrations. One of them said that what happened was unacceptable since his grandmother called him in the morning, crying because she couldn't access her FB account.

Others said that the latest outages are a sign that they should start ditching Meta platforms.

"The landscape there is getting so biased and draconian it's almost not worth it anymore," explained a netizen.

While others are disappointed, many Meta users are complaining that they are still having issues, especially those who have 2FA (two-factor authentications). They said that they couldn't log in because Meta wouldn't send them the needed code.

Elon Musk-Mark Zuckerberg Feud Continues

This photo illustration created in Washington, DC, on July 6, 2023, shows the opening page of Threads, an Instagram app, near the Meta logo. More than 10 million people have signed up to Threads, Meta's rival to Twitter, within the first few hours of its launch.

While Meta tries its best to make up for affected users, Elon Musk is taking advantage of his rival's situation. The tech billionaire even posted on X to mock Mark Zuckerberg and his company.

"If you're reading this post, it's because our servers are working," said the billionaire.

Of course, Mark Zuckerberg didn't back down. He replied to Elon Musk's post, saying "it's because I let them in."

But, Elon Musk is not yet satisfied as he continues to post memes targeting Meta. He also referenced Andy Stone's X post, saying that Meta is able to inform users because of his X platform.
