Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has revealed that he was raising cattle on his ranch in Hawaii, a subject of public scrutiny and curiosity.

He announced in a post on both Facebook and Instagram on Wednesday (Jan. 10), describing it as his "most delicious" project to date.

Zuckerberg's goal for raising wagyu and Angus cattle in his Ko'olau ranch on the island of Kauai was to "create some of the highest quality beef in the world."

"They'll grow up eating macadamia meal and drinking beer that we grow and produce here on the ranch," he added. "We want the whole process to be local and vertically integrated."

Mixed Reactions from the Social Media Herd

Zuckerberg's Instagram post particularly garnered at least 240,000 likes and thousands of comments reflecting mixed reactions, The Straits Times reported.

Some of the users were supportive of his project, with one saying that an accompanying photo of a slab of meat in the Instagram post looked like "an amazing cut" and another calling it a "dream project."

However, others have beefed with it, calling his venture "an absolutely ridiculous waste of money, land and resources."

"Keep destroying the environment," another said. "Raising cattle is one of the biggest causes of greenhouse gasses. Such a disgusting and entitled thing to be doing."

Others raised questions about why Zuckerberg was allegedly building a secret bunker on his ranch, which was said to include a dozen buildings and 30 bedrooms.

The construction of the facility was first revealed by Wired in December 2023.

A representative for Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, told Time that Kauai authorities encouraged homeowners to build shelters, presumably for protection against hurricanes.
